Generally, the lighter the blind is the more heat it will reflect when compared to a dark blind.  With sunscreen blinds this is most noticeable, the lighter the blind the more heat it will reflect, while the darker blinds do make it much easier to see through.  Our Luxaflex Duette blinds are designed with this in mind, and all have white fabric facing the window to reflect the most sun possible while allowing a wide range of colour choice on the room side, to suit your interior styling.

Our go to recommendation for wet areas are Luxaflex Polysatin Shutters.  They are waterproof, and easily taken off and hosed, or showered clean when needed.  Other popular options for these areas are simple plain fabric roller blinds which may wiped down. 

This comes down entirely to the type of blind you choose.  Blinds that are made up of blades, either fabric or hard materials, can be swapped out with new ones fairly easily, while blinds made up of full fabric pieces may require a full replacement.  It is definitely worth asking our consultants’ how easy damaged blinds are to repair or replace if you are concerned.

Roller blinds can usually be retrospectively motorised, providing the tube size and shape matches the blind it is being installed into.  Other types of blind and curtains can be challenging and could require either a new track, or a completely new blind to motorise.

There are a lot of blinds we provide that can be driven by a lithium rechargeable battery, as either an external battery pack or integrated into the blind itself.  This allows you to motorise an entire household without the need for any cables to be run.  The battery life on these motors is very impressive, some lasting years between charges.

Some blinds are easy to install, while others can be very challenging without proper training.  Our installers are experienced in all of our products, and any issues they may face while installing them.  They are prepared to drill into steel, brick, tile, timber, plaster (or anything else they may encounter).  When you are buying a high-quality window covering it really does pay to have a high-quality installer installing it correctly for you.

Curtains are and will always be a great way to keep the heat in in our harsh Tasmanian winters.  Sheers can provide a little thermal benefit, solid fabrics a bit more.  Blockout coated curtain fabrics are a good, cost-effective way to insulate, but separately lined curtains are much better again.  From there you can also add a “bumph” layer in between as an interlining for extra warmth and acoustic properties.  Luxaflex Duette blinds are our most popular solution for keeping homes warm during the winter.  With an R-Value of up to 0.78 they are amazing for keeping the heat in and with the flexibility of completely retracting the blind in order to make the most of those sunny winter days we love.

While internal blinds and curtains can be quite effective in keeping the harsh sun from heating up our homes, the most effective way to cool your home during summer is using external blinds to prevent the sun from heating up your windows.  Luxaflex offer a wide range of external awning to suit all types of applications and operational needs.  With rising power costs, awnings can be a great investment in keeping your home cool through the warmer months, while allowing you to retract them away to maximise the solar gain though the cooler ones.

It really comes down to the type of awning you are looking to select.  Some folding arm awnings have limited use in windy conditions, while our Luxaflex Magnatrack awnings have been tested to handle 185kmh winds for awnings up to 3.5 metres wide.  Our team will help guide you to which awning is right for you and your situation

The best solution we would suggest for a skylight is a Luxaflex Duette skylight blind.  They are great insulators and can be made as manual operation with a pull stick or motorised.
